Melvich Community Council is backing an ambitious project to build a multi-purpose community hub for the area.

Chairman Andrew Mackay said the new build would help "bring back the community spirit that has in the past been diminished".

Plans are in place to replace the old Melvich Hall with a new hub.

Project managers appealed last month to individuals and community groups to write in support of the scheme.

A spokesman for the hall said: "A big thank-you to Melvich Community Council for their letter of support.

"We would appreciate more letters of support from individuals in our community and local community groups as it will help to demonstrate to potential funders that our community are behind the project."

A public engagement exercise is to take place over the hub design.

Mr Mackay wrote: "We welcome the plans for a new community hub and see it as somewhere for locals to congregate and bring back the community spirit that has in the past been diminished."
