Residents in the Melvich area are being urged to show their support for an ambitious project to build a new community hub.

Demolition work is currently under way to take down the old Melvich Village Hall to make way for a new build.

Meanwhile Melvich Community SCIO is in the process of applying for funding to help with the purchase of land adjacent to the site of the hall.

The acquisition of the ground would allow the new hub to be set back from the road, improving safety.

Later on the group will also be applying for funding to meet construction costs.

A spokesman for the SCIO said: “Funders need to see evidence of community support for our project.

“The best way to show that is to write a letter of support that we can then attach to any funding applications.

“If you are supportive of our intent to construct a fit-for-purpose, multi-functional community hub, then please could you put that in writing.

“Either a letter or an email would be awesome.

“The more people that show support for the project, then the greater the chance that we can secure funding for delivering our new community facility.

“Please consider writing a letter of support for us and please encourage others in our community to do the same. it will help make a difference.”

The group say there is still a “lot of work” to be undertaken and it could be up to two years before a new community hub is in place with the project reliant on grant funding success.
