A BUILDING warrant has been granted to demolish the old Melvich Village Hall, managers of the facility have reported.

Funding for the demolition work has been granted by SSE Strathy North Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

Hall managers posted on the hall’s social media page: “The demolition of the old village hall will sadden some members of our community.

“However, it is worth noting that this work is a key step towards us getting a fit-for-purpose, multi-functional community hub which will help meet the community’s needs going forward.”

Managers are now proceeding with the formal award of the demolition contract as all the necessary pre-requisites have been met.

The post continued: “We will share with you the demolition contractor’s programme once they have accepted the contract.”
