Plans for new housing in Tongue will go on display at a public information session in the village next Wednesday, June 14.

Wildland Limited is proposing to build eight homes on an area of land above the site identified for the planned North Sutherland Health and Social Care Hub.

Conservation and hospitality firm Wildland is solely owned by Danish entrepreneur and local landowner Anders Holch Povlsen.

The new builds would be earmarked for people who live and work in the area and would not be for sale as holiday homes.

Wildland is in discussion with local community development trust Up North! to purchase two homes which can then be let out to residents of the local community.

Joe Dunn, Wildland director of built development, said: “Wildland is delighted to bring forward proposals for much needed housing in the area.

“As part of Tongue community, we recognised the shortage of quality housing for our teams and for the community as a whole.

“Over the next two to three years we will be creating continued new job opportunities in the area and it is important that our teams have a home in close proximity to their work and where they can put down roots in the long-term.

“We see this is a key part of a sustainable community and we believe our proposals are in keeping with the village setting.

“We are keen to reinstate pedestrian links from the top of the village down to the Burrs Garage site.”

The drop-in event is taking place at the Kyle Centre from 2.30pm-7pm and representatives from Wildland and Dualchas Architects will be present.
