A SPECIAL concert to celebrate the ending of the coronavirus emergency measures – whenever that is – is being organised by the Rotary Club of East Sutherland.

Incoming club president Alistair Risk told us: “The coronavirus emergency measures will end and while life will take some time to get back to normal, the Rotary Club of East Sutherland believes that our community will need a boost to moral and enjoyment. And that the many excellent bands, musicians and singers up and down the coast will need an opportunity to play for everyone’s entertainment.

“Last year the club held a wonderful concert in the Fountain Hall in Golspie with Jennifer Port, Jim ‘n’ Ian, the Strathair Ceilidh Band, and young musicians and dancers galore and so the club now has ambitions to do something similar but bigger and a real celebration of Sutherland’s determination and the dedication, the friendships and the enthusiasm that will see us through these difficult times.

“The idea is that potentially, sometime perhaps in late August, a Celebration Concert will be held in Brora Primary School starring local talent, some of whom have already volunteered.

“The concert will be free and include a welcome drink with the only expense to the audience being a raffle to cover some costs.”

Alistair says he is looking for Sutherland entertainers young and old – Scots traditional, Country and Western, cheer leaders, soloists and groups to contact him on 01408 621609 or email email@alistair.risk.co.uk to offer to be a part of the show.

And if the idea is popular he hopes that perhaps it can result in similar events in several of the East Sutherland communities such as Rogart, Dornoch and Helmsdale.

He adds; “Now that is something to look forward to while we are in social isolation.”

Among those having confirmed they will take part are Jim ‘n’ Ian, Dougie Burns and the Strathair Ceilidh Band.
