A tribute concert is to be held in memory of a popular Golspie rotarian, who died last year.

East Sutherland Rotary Club is presenting a White Heather Club Tribute Concert in honour of Hugh Johnston.

The event will raise money for local causes close to Mr Johnston’s heart.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk said: “Almost exactly a year ago Rotary and the community lost a great man.

“Hugh was a pillar of the community and a founder member of the Rotary Club and enthusiastic member of the Church, who worked tirelessly for others in this area.

“He had a special interest in health issues and in particular he worked quietly and effectively to help scores of local people who suffered from alcohol abuse - or as he called it the ‘Highlanders’ achilles heel’.

“His friends in Rotary and local musicians are keen to hold a special concert in his memory.”

The tribute concert will have a strong Scottish theme, along the lines of the White Heather Club and will showcase a host of young talent, with singers, dancers and musicians.

On the bill are the Simon Scott Singers, the Jan Trumble Dancers and Strathair Dance Band

Guest stars will be Golspie clarsach player Jennifer Port and Brora duo Jim and Iain.

The event on October 4 will be held in the Fountain Hall, Golspie from 7pm-11pm.

Entry is by £10 donation at the door and includes a light supper. There will be a soft drinks bar and a raffle.
