WALKS in Sutherland have made a list of seven magnificent Scottish trekking spots compiled by a top travel guide.

Melvich Beach was listed fourth by top travel guide Wanderlust, with the Bone Caves of Assynt in fifth.

The two Sutherland spots were among several other north of Scotland destinations to make the short list, with Duncansby Head in Caithness in third, and the picturesque stretch of coast between Plockton and Duncraig Castle also being named.

Topping the list was the coastline and nearby seabird colonies around the village of St Abbs in Berwickshire, which saw its global profile boosted a couple of years ago when it featured in the cinema blockbuster Avengers: Endgame – where it doubled as the location for New Asgard.

Elsewhere, the Crinan Canal in Kintyre, the famous fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife, and locations in Orkney also featured.
