East Sutherland Rotarians certainly know how to spice up a Burns supper.

About 30 members and friends of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland enjoyed a ‘Bangladeshi Burns Night’ at Sid’s Spice Indian restaurant in Brora on Wednesday, January 17.

Alisdair Miller delivered the “Address to the Curry” with theatrical flare and panache.

This is the second year in a row the club has organised a Burns Night with a difference.

For many years, Rotarians have gathered at Sid’s Spice on St Andrew’s Night to enjoy a selection of curries, but in November 2022, Sid was stuck in India and the restaurant was closed.

Rotarians missed their curry fix so much that they decided to move it to Burns Night 2023 instead and have now started a tradition.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk said the snowy weather had affected numbers with 12 people having to pull out.

“Those who did to brave the elements were rewarded with a superb evening of fun, friendship and delicious food,” he said.

“The highlight of the event was Alisdair Miller, armed with a Gurkha knife, delivering his specially composed 'Address to the Curry' with theatrical flair and panache.”
