Organisations across Sutherland are holding events next weekend to celebrate the life and work of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns.

Burns suppers are usually held on or around the poet’s birthday, January 25, which is also known as Burns Night.

The first Burns supper was held by Burns’ friends on July 21, 1801, the fifth anniversary of his death, and it has been a regular occurrence since.
