Postal vote to be held for Creich Community Council

Highland Council is holding a postal vote to decide who will sit on Creich Community Council.

The local authority received 11 nominations for the nine seats on the Creich council.

Those now vying for a place on the body are: Hayley Bangs; Iain Bowles; Gail Cassap-Brown; Norman MacDonald; Colin MacFarlane; Iain Maclean; Caroline Munro; Shona Paterson; Thomas Shaw; Russell Smith; and Scott Vetters.

Postal ballot papers and candidate statements are now being sent sent to registered voters resident in the Creich area.

The deadline for return of the ballot papers is noon on Tuesday, March 19.

The count will take place in the afternoon of March 19 and will be live streamed on the Highland Council’s YouTube channel and Twitter and Facebook channels.

Golspie Community Council was in the same position as Creich, with too many nominations received for the seats available.

However, Highland Council said that following the withdrawal of some of the candidates, the council could now be reformed.

Both Creich Community Council and Golspie Community Council fell by the wayside last October in the main community council elections after too few nominations were received to allow the groups to reconstitute.

However, Highland Council holds interim elections in a bid to resurrect community councils in areas where they have been suspended.

Community councils are voluntary organisations that represent the views and concerns of local people within their area across a wide range of issues from new buildings and roads and local services and facilities.
