Communities in Sutherland are gearing up to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

A number of events are being planned during the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend from Thursday to Sunday, June 2-5.

Ardgay based Christine Mackay, a deputy lieutenant on the county's Lord Lieutenancy team, told a meeting of Creich Community Council last week: “There will be an event at the Bradbury Centre (Bonar Bridge) on Friday and at the Kyle of Sutherland Hub on Saturday."

“On Sunday there will be lunches at both Ardgay and Bonar Bridge Halls. That is all in the pipeline."

Communities throughout the UK and Commonwealth will be lighting beacons on June 2 - Beacon Lighting Day. But Ms Mackay said landowner Balnagown Estate was not keen for Jubilee Hill, near Ardgay, where beacons have been lit in the past, to be used. She is hoping to find an alternative site.

Community Council chairman Pete Campbell said: “If you want any help, even a small amount of financial help, you only need to ask the community council.”

The Rotary Club of East Sutherland announced last week that it was planning a large event at Dunrobin Castle to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
