Primary school children across the county have been busy over the last few weeks drawing pictures on two themes - the Crown in Scotland and the natural environment in Sutherland.

And they have come up with some amazing and imaginative creations from deer, foxes, squirrels, hedgehogs and Highland cows to crowns and flags.

Members of the Lord-Lieutenancy team have been busy over the last few days visiting schools in person to pick up the competition entries.

Tomorrow the team will meet at Lairg and will be faced with the difficult task of selecting one winner from each of the three age categories in each school. Headteachers can make six “special awards”.

Winners will receive certificates, rolled up and tied with a Sutherland tartan ribbon and the best overall entry from Sutherland will be sent to King Charles III.
