An east Sutherland amateur football club are ready to ‘shine’ this summer after holding their second annual village car washing event.
Last Saturday, Helmsdale United teamed up with matchday shirt sponsor, Helmie Auto Shine, for a “successful” afternoon of car cleaning, inviting village vehicle owners to come along to have their cars lathered up and washed down in aid of funds for the club.

From three hours, players, coaches and committee had their sponges at the ready, raising over £500 towards club funds.
Tea, coffee and a selection of home baking was on offer for those who stopped by to support the fundraising afternoon.
The club even had a visit from a Helmsdale fire appliance, which was provided with an extra-special spruce up.
Helmsdale United are currently preparing for their upcoming summer season playing in the North West Sutherland amateur league.
Colin MacRae, secretary for the club, said: “This is the second year that we’ve done a car wash with our strip sponsor, Helmie Auto Shine.
“Despite the weather, we managed to raise over £500 which will help towards our expenses this season. We even had our local fire engine come for a wash.
“A big thank you once again to Stuart ‘Todd’ Davidson at Helmie Auto Shine for the use of his equipment and to all the players and committee members who helped on the day.
“As always, we are very thankful to the people of Helmsdale and surrounding areas for their continued support and generosity.”
