Helmsdale footballers turn out in fancy dress for pre-season club fundraising walk

A pre-season fundraiser by a Sutherland football club was certainly an eye-catching event.

Helmsdale United AFC's pre-season fundraiser was a fancy dress sponsored walk.

Members and supporters of Helmsdale United AFC turned out yesterday in all sorts of colourful costumes for a fancy dress sponsored walk.

Starting off at 10am, participants walked the nine miles from Kildonan to Helmsdale.

The club had flagged up that it would be a colourful walk, posting on its Facebook page: “We’re having our yearly pre-season fundraiser and this year it’s fancy dress.

“The boys have got some good costumes at the ready.”

Helmsdale United AFC’s first game of the season in the Stafford Cup is away to Lochinver on April 23.

This fundraiser must have been warm in his Shrek costume as the day was sunny.

The fundraising walk was from Kildonan to Helmsdale.
