Local angler Andy Sutherland continues his amazing record by catching first fish of season on River Helmsdale for 18th time

He has done it again!

Helmsdale angler Andy Sutherland (Torrish) has caught the first fish off the River Helmsdale in a new season for the 18th time.

Mr Sutherland hooked a 12lb salmon today from the Salscraggie Boils pool using a 1” Willie Gunn fly given to him by his brother Ronald Sutherland.

First salmon of 2024 season caught on River Brora

Mr Sutherland hooked a 12lb salmon today from the Salscraggie Boils pool using a 1” Willie Gunn fly given to him by his brother Ronald Sutherland.

The River Helmsdale was officially opened six weeks ago when a ceremonial first cast was made by Suisgill Estate ghillie Donald Sutherland.
