If you are looking for some summer fun and frolics, then Lairg is the place to be over the next week.

The ever popular Lairg Gala Week kicks off on Saturday July 8, and runs until the following Saturday, July 15.

An opening ceremony takes place at the marquee at 3pm on opening day when this year’s Gala Queen Emma Macrae will be crowned by local resident Eilidh Matheson.

Steven MacLean, who helps organise the festival, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sutherland Schools Pipe Band and the Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Band for our opening.”

The gala week is jam-packed with activities for all the family including a sports day, fun fishing, treasure hunt, pool, darts, quizzes and competitions.

The first dance will be a family event with Inverness-based Ann Dickson Ceilidh Band and the last dance will be to 136 in the marquee.

Events on the final day of the gala week will centre round Ferrycroft with an It’s a Knockout contest, inflatables, games and raft races. The annual Gar’s Tractor Run will also stop off at Ferrycroft.

Mr MacLean said: “We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the gala or helped out.”
