A RENEWED appeal has gone out for people to handmake poppies for a display to mark the centenary in September of Lairg War Memorial.

Alison Magee of Lairg and District Community Initiatives (LDCI) told the March meeting of Lairg Community Council about the planned centenary event.

She asked at that point for people to knit, crochet or make felt poppies and drop them off at collection points.

LDCI is collaborating with deputy lieutenant Sheila Stewart of the county's Lord Lieutenancy team to plan the commemorative ceremony.

It is intended to form a "cascade of poppies" from the top to the bottom of the war memorial railings.

LDCI said poppies can be dropped off at Lairg and District Learning Centre, the Rusty Coo or Lairg Library until mid-August.

Poppies can be any size, any shade of red and any material.
