Creich community council reformed with nine members after postal ballot

Highland Council has confirmed that Creich community council will be reformed after the latest round of interim community council elections were held via a postal ballot.

Golspie and Creich community councils were suspended last October after not enough nominations were submitted to allow the groups to re-form.

Creich received 11 nominations for nine vacancies after a call from Highland Council for people to come forward to fill the roles.

The deadline for the return of the ballot papers was noon today.

After counting took place this afternoon, deputy returning officer Cheryl MacIver confirmed that a total of 482 valid postal ballots were submitted from an electorate of 885 across the Creich area, with no papers rejected.

The number of votes received for each of the elected candidates was as follows:

Hayley Bangs (312)

Iain Bowles (140)

Norman MacDonald (167)

Colin MacFarlane (166)

Iain Maclean (271)

Caroline Munro (334)

Shona Paterson (217)

Russell Smith (224)

Scott Vetters (307)

Two candidates – Thomas Shaw (106 votes) and Gail Cassap-Brown (126) – were unsuccessful in being elected.
