Assynt honours its war dead at Remembrance Sunday service

The Royal British Legion Scotland’s (RBLS) Assynt branch held its traditional Remembrance Sunday service at Lochinver War Memorial yesterday.

Stuart McClelland took the service while Ian Mackenzie read the Ode of Remembrance from Laurence Binyon’s poem ‘For the Fallen’. The piper was Charlie Cowan.

Wreaths were laid by Dr Fiona Hamilton on behalf of the Assynt RBLS branch; Jorine Van Delft on behalf of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service; David MacAskill for Lochinver RNLI lifeboat; and David Grant on behalf of Sutherland Lord-Lieutenancy.

Assynt RBLS branch chairman Dr John Morgan presented Mr Grant, who is standing down as a deputy lieutenant after 24 years of service, with a framed certificate of merit for his support of the branch.

Dr Morgan's wife Janet presented a bouquet of flowers to Mr Grant’s wife, Norah.
