Ponies were checked to make sure that they had no lameness and their heart rates were taken as an indication of their starting fitness. Adult volunteers were stationed around the route as checkpoint personnel and members were split into groups, dressed in fluorescent bibs etc, given two tags with emergency telephone numbers to attach to themselves and their mounts, and each group was issued with a plastic case containing a “talk round” of the route.
After the last group had departed, some of the parents decided to take a stroll around the route, taking advantage of the sunshine and the views.
However, what they didn’t realise was how steep one of the tracks was and the height that these riders would be climbing to.
The first group returned with broad smiles, having ridden over undulating tracks at almost 8km per hour, and everyone said how splendid the views were.
When all the groups were safely home, heart rates and any lameness were checked again and all were presented with official Pony Club rosettes.
Those members who completed the course were: Jade MacKenzie, Jodie Maclennan, Carla Preston, Rachael Wilson, Fiona Dalton, Stevie MacLeod, Layla Dalton and Jake Sinclair.
This was excellent as a lot of these members were on lead rein at the start of the year.
