NINE young runners from East Sutherland Athletics Club have qualified for this year’s Scottish Schools’ Athletics finals, scheduled for the end of June in Glasgow.

These youngsters will be the first athletes to compete on the new track at Hampden Park which has been constructed in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

Qualification for the younger athletes (Groups C and D) involved the long trip to Grangemouth last weekend where they raced against the best in Scotland in order to secure a place in the final.

Constance Nankivell (Group C 1500 metres), Eoghann Gollan (Group D 1500 metres) and Kieran Barnsby (Group C 100 metres) came through this ordeal with flying colours and can now look forward to joining their older team-mates for finals day.

In Group A, these will include Ross Gollan (1500 metres) and Daryn Jack (100 and 200 metres). In Group B, the qualifiers are Rosie Nankivell (3000 metres), Liam Barnsby (1500 metres), Angus Mohun (400 metres) and Ruaridh Oliver-Jones (800 metres).
