Wick golfer wins North Winter Alliance fixture at Durness

WICK golfer Dougie Thorburn won the latest round of the North Golf Winter Alliance with victory at Durness Golf Club.

Thorburn was the clear winner as he took the title by four shots from Reay golfer Brent Munro.

Thorburn recorded a score of 70 in an impressive performance which saw him claim four birdies on the course.

There was further Caithness success in the category one section when Thurso golfer Graeme Henderson claimed victory with a nett score of 67.

Portmahomack golfer Mark Keay finished in second place with a score of nett 68 with Owen Cormack from Wick third in nett 70.

There was Ross-shire success in the category two section, with Mike Moray from Invergordon claiming victory with a nett score of 68.

He was one shot ahead of Thurso duo Steven Lowe and Rob Williamson with a nett score of 69.

In the women’s competition, Thurso golfer Sarah Meiklejohn came out on top with a nett score of 70. She was three shots ahead of Eileen Manson who recorded a score of 73.

The next round takes place at Royal Dornoch Golf Club on Sunday, November 6.

The tour will then move on to Invergordon Golf Club on Saturday, November 20, followed by Wick Golf Club on Saturday, December 4.

The teams competition at Brora Golf Club will be the final Winter Alliance fixture which will take place in 2022 and is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 18.
