GOLSPIE Sutherland could be crowned North Caledonian League Division One champions if they win in Orkney and Invergordon lose at Thurso this afternoon.

Golspie remain one point ahead of second-placed Invergordon after the two teams drew 0–0 at Recreation Park last weekend.

The result means that if Golspie Sutherland defeat Orkney at Holm tomorrow and Invergordon lose in Caithness, Golspie will be crowned champions and pick up their 11th North Caledonian League championship.

It would also mean a successful defence of the league title they won in 2019 due to last season being declared null and void due to the pandemic.

If Invergordon at least draw in Thurso, the title race would come down to the final day of the season on Saturday, June 26 when Golspie host Orkney and Invergordon host Thurso.

The Ross-shire outfit, who appeared to be heavy favourites to win the division at the halfway point of the season have failed to win in 2021, only picking up two points out of nine, which included draws against Orkney and Golspie along with a 2–0 defeat at St Duthus.

They need at least one victory and for other results to go their way to have any chance of winning their first title since 2017.

Thurso could still win the league if they beat Invergordon twice and Golspie Sutherland only pick up one point in the double header against Orkney to claim the title for the first time since 2013.
