Golspie Stafford and Inver are the only NWS League teams remaining in the tournament after winning their first round ties.

But there was disappointment for Helmsdale United, Invergordon Social Club, Lairg Rovers, Lochbroom and Lochinver who were all knocked out of the tournament.

Golspie and Inver are the only NWS League teams in the second round as they aim to become the first team from Sutherland to win the competition.

Golspie Stafford cruised through to the second round of the competition when they defeated Invergordon Social Club 7-3.

Shaun Urquhart and Robbie Murray scored for Golspie to give them a 2-0 advantage at half time.

Invergordon Social Club pulled one back, but Murray restored their two-goal advantage. Social Club then pulled another goal back to make it 3-2.

Substitute George Jones scored twice to make it 5-2 Golspie before Invergordon pulled another goal back.

But the hosts killed the game off when both Murray and Jones completed their hat-tricks for an impressive win.

Golspie will face Orkney outfit East United in the second round.

Inver defeated Lochinver 3-2 to progress to the next round of the competition.

Inver took the lead through Alex Mackenzie, but Lochinver came back into the game with player manager Ally Macleod heading in the equaliser before their captain Jake Lockett headed them in front at half time.

But Inver fought back in the second half as Johnie Beattie scored the equaliser with Mackenzie going on to score the winning goal.

Inver will now travel to Inverness to face Ferrybache in the next round.

North West Sutherland League champions Helmsdale United exited the competition after a 2-1 defeat to Caithness cup specialists Staxigoe United at Couper Park.

Helmsdale took the lead after just five minutes when Kevin Cairns rifled a low drive into the net.

Staxigoe equalised through Cameron Yuill with 20 minutes remaining and Matthew Aitkenhead scored the winner in the 85th minute.

Lairg Rovers were knocked out by Castletown 3-2 on penalties after the two teams were level 2-2 after extra time.

Lochbroom proved no match for Caithness First Division leaders Wick Groats going down 5-0 in Ullapool.

In the other North Section first round matches, cup holders High Ormlie Hotspur defeated Thurso Acks 3-1.

Wick Thistle are also through to the next round after they defeated Thurso outfit Top Joes 3-0.

Keiss beat Thurso Pentland 8-2.
