A SUTHERLAND schoolgirl has been chosen to represent her country in a prestigious endurance riding event in Ireland later this month. Fourteen-year-old Brèagha Hayes, a pupil at Dornoch Academy, has been selected to ride for Scotland in two-day 80km event at the Home International and Celtic Challenge at Donard, County Wicklow, on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22.

Brèagha has competed against adult riders before and won the two-day 60km event at the Scottish Endurance Riding Championships at Scone last year on her eight-year-old part-Arab horse, Sam.

This is Brèagha and Sam’s second year on the Scottish Squad following their successful completion of the two-day 80km event at the Red Dragon, in Wales, last October.

Brèagha is currently up for selection to the British Junior Endurance Riding Team, which will be travelling to France to compete at the French Championships in August.

However, competing at this level is very expensive and any sponsorship for this talented young local rider, from local businesses or individuals, would be very gratefully received.

If you would like to help, please contact Pat May on 01862 811306 or email patmay365@btinternet.com.
