Sutherland footballer Franci Hutchison has been named in the shortlist for Highlands and Islands League player of the year.

She is one of four players who have been nominated in the shortlist for the award after the list was revealed today.

Hutchison has been nominated along with Buckie Ladies goalkeeper Sophia Golebiewski, Caithness attacking player Carly Erridge and Nairn St Ninian goalkeeper Lisa Mason.

The winners are set to be announced at the Scottish Women’s Football awards which will take place at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday, November 25.

Scottish Women’s Football chief Aileen Campbell says it will be an evening which will celebrate the talent in women’s football.

She said: “Women’s football has become more visible than ever before, which has led to more players registered and more teams being launched. It’s therefore tremendously exciting to reveal the shortlists for the ScottishPower SWF awards, which showcases the best the women’s game has to offer.

“We had hundreds of nominations from across Scotland, highlighting some amazing stories of success, bravery and sportswomanship, sometimes against all odds.

“I have been struck too from accounts by team-mates by how many players across all the leagues don’t realise the power they have as role models.

“I can’t wait to celebrate them at Hampden in November, but first the judging panel has a difficult job ahead.”
