SUTHERLAND Women will look to cause a big upset in the Scottish Cup third round when they face Falkirk at Golspie on Sunday.
Sutherland manager John Smith says this weekend will be the toughest match his club have faced in their short history when they clash at King George V Park.
But he says despite going into the match as underdogs, they are more than capable of progressing into the fourth round.
“I know Falkirk play in a more competitive league set up compared to what the Highlands and Islands League is,” said Smith.
“They play in Championship South and have only won four games and lost eight. But they don’t concede too many goals and don’t get rolled over.
“It will be a hard ask for our own players because it will be a step up playing against a team the likes of Falkirk.
“It will be a hard challenge for the girls.
“Winning the Highlands and Islands League Cup against Clachnacuddin was a hard challenge for us.
“But we expect Falkirk to be another level up from Clachnacuddin.
“But i’ve been in football long enough to know there is always a chance.
“We will be underdogs, but we will go out and give a good account of ourselves and take opportunities when they come our way.”
Sutherland won the Highlands and Islands League Cup and finished third in the league in their debut season of competition in 2021.
They defeated Orkney 2–1 in the preliminary round of the Scottish Cup before receiving byes against Bishopton and Grampian due to their opponents being unable to field a team.
Most of the players from last season are still in the squad, although Paige Lee Miller has moved back to the United States and Tracey-Anne Montgomery and Yasmin Borthwick are both out through injury.
Kick off is at 2pm.
