Successful season for Ardgay club

The evening was attended by 46 of its 60-plus members, with the semi-final and final of the mixed doubles (junior player with senior player) cup and plate competition being played.
The evening proved to be full of anticipation, intrigue and excitement, as to which of the couples would be the triumphant winners following the earlier rounds the previous week.
After some exceptional play the cup was eventually won by George Ross and Kirstin Mackinnon, with the runners up being Jackie Sutherland and Alec Marwick.
The winners of the plate were Gregor Laing and Joanne Mackenzie and the runners-up were Liam Munro and Jordan Wemyss.
Prizes were also given to winners and runners-up of all other competitions played.
Results were:
Men’s and Boys’ Doubles – Winners – George Ross and Andrew Mackay. Runners-up – George Macleod and Alex Marwick.
Women’s and Girls’ Doubles – Winners – Jackie Sutherland and Kirsty Macleod. Runners-up – Janette Cameron and Caitlin Ross.
There are many other players not mentioned above who have achieved accolades within the club.
A presentation was made by Angela Marwick, on behalf of the parents of the junior members, to express their gratitude to the popular club leader/coach, George Ross, for introducing additional sessions to encourage young (and not so young) players of all abilities. As a result, the club membership has reached unprecedented levels.
Some of the younger members have gained additional experience when attending events associated with the club, such as the North of Scotland Championships held in Inverness in February and the recent competition held in Lochinver.
Many of these young players have taken the experience they have gained at the club and taken this to other competitions such as those held at Dornoch Academy, Tain Royal Academy, Ross-shire Schools under 14 competition, Sutherland Primary Schools competition, and the Boys Brigade competition.
Many of these players have been successful in their personal achievements at these competitions.
The Ardgay Badminton Club has players from Ardgay, Bonar Bridge, Edderton and even as far afield as Nigg with sometimes participants from Rogart.
The club’s younger members are around eight years old, with some of the older and more experienced players being approximately 50 to 60 years their senior. There are representations from every decade in between. This is truly a club for all ages and abilities.
So if you fancy something to keep you occupied for an odd evening, the club will resume next season in October.
