TAIN Amateur Swimming Club held a Swimathon in aid of Highland Disability Sport in the last week of November.

Members felt it was a very worthwhile cause, especially in the wake of the Paralympics, and because the charity is not as well known.

Thirty seven swimmers took part in the event, aged from seven to 17. Many proved they had amazing stamina, swimming one or even two miles in less than an hour. Their endurance and abilities reflect the high standard of teaching by the volunteer coaching team headed by Rona Gordon.

The club swam a total of just over 160 miles – a record for them, beating last year’s total by 32 miles.

Last year’s Swimathon raised £1000 for the Archie Foundation and TASC hope to have raised the same for this year’s charity.
