Province curlers will be hoping mother nature’s Jack Frost will come to their help locally during this month as they have only two scheduled visits to the Inverness Ice Rink, and the second of these is not until the semi finals of the Knock-out Competition involving Locheye, the North Highland Curing Trust, Loch Fleet and Brora rinks on the last night of the month.
On January 14th, at the late time of 9.35pm, there is the only full league programme for all the clubs before a Come and Try bonspiel night on Friday, 25th January at 7.30pm. Tony Watson of Locheye Curling Club (01862 832646) is the person to contact if you wish to get involved in the sport.
But during the month Province curlers from Locheye and Rogart will be showing their colours in Switzerland and Canada.
Nigel and Val Murray, along with Willie and Heather McRae, will be taking part in the Lucerne Open-air Bonspiel in Lucerne, Switzerland, while the Province Match Secretary, Richard Mackenzie, is working his way around central Canada as part of the Scottish curling tour trying to regain the Strathcona Cup from the Canadians.
The touring Scots in Richard’s central squad played their first of 31 games in Ottawa yesterday (Thursday). He is playing in a rink skipped by Lockhart Steele from Hamilton. Progress of the Scottish Tour can be followed on the website – www.strathconacuptour2013.
During Richard’s absence, results and an updated league table of Province games will be looked after by Alan MacDonald who is the Ross Province Match Secretary and also a curler in the North Highland Curling Trust number one rink.
