Outstanding display from local athletes at Cross Country League in Elgin

ROUND five of the North Cross Country League took place at Elgin on Saturday and, once again, the young athletes from East Sutherland AC gave an outstanding display of distance running and came away with two individual gold medals and five team victories.

The Under 11 boys’ team have been unbeaten all season and again took team gold thanks to superb performances from Eoghann Gollan (1st), Adam Allan (2nd), Taran Squire (5th) and Shane Turney (7th).

In the equivalent race for girls, Catriona Scott ran well to hold on to 14th place.

The Under 13 girls’ team have also remained unbeaten all season and, by winning the race on Saturday, Constance Nankivell not only led her team to another victory, but also secured the individual North League title for 2012.

As always, fine running from Helen Gordon (6th) and Rosie Nankivell (11th) completed the scoring for ESAC.

The race for Under 13 boys was extremely competitive and it took tremendous determination on the part of Angus Mohun (2nd), Fraser Roach (4th), Ruaridh Oliver-Jones (5th) and Keir Beaton (6th) to win the team gold. Young Keiran Barnsby (14th) and Duncan Macleod (16th) completed the scoring for this talented ESAC team.

The Under 15 girls’ team have exceeded all expectations this season and again took team gold thanks to Hanna Cleghorn (4th), Catriona Gordon (5th), Eilidh MacRae (7th), Rebekah Bryan (12th) and Sarah MacDonald (15th).

In the race for Under 15 boys, Alasdair Coupar (2nd), showed great strength and composure and, with excellent support from Liam Barnsby (4th), Lewis Holmes (5th), Ross Gollan (6th) and Ruairidh Gollan (14th), it was another team gold for ESAC.

Finlay Murray completed a thoroughly successful day for the East Sutherland Club by claiming seventh place in the Under 17 race.
