MUIR of Ord Rovers brought the curtain came down on the Port Services Group North Caledonian League season with a 2-1 victory over Football Times Cup Final opponents Dingwall Thistle at Dudgeon Park, Brora, last Saturday.

Thistle goalkeeper Neil MacKay gave the holders the lead in the eighth minute when he scored with a wind-assisted clearance which took one bounce over this opposite number Robert Rose.

It was all-square early in the second half when Ewan Dance cracked a shot high into the net from 12 yards and man-of-the-match Scott Morrison hit the winner when he curled a free kick over the Thistle wall and into the net with five minutes to spare.

North Caley secretary Rod Houston told the Northern Times: “In many ways it has been a season for the Caithness clubs, with Halkirk United winning the league and Thurso winning three cup competitions.

“However, other clubs such as Muir of Ord Rovers, Dingwall Thistle have played some excellent football and the re-emergence of Invergordon, with Gordy Sinclair at the helm, has caught the eye.”

Mr Houston added: “As ever, it is time to look forward and Clachnacuddin have applied to rejoin the association next season, so prospects are good.

“But for me, the real heroes are the volunteers who keep the clubs going.

“It is often thankless work, but work that enables the North Caley to survive.”
