Weighing in at a hefty 16lb 2oz, the trout is the biggest to be landed at Loch Shin in years and was caught with a brass spinner, just north of Overscaig Hotel on Sunday, 2nd September.

Hotel proprietor Martin Fraser said: “The lads, who are all from Germany, had booked with the hotel to take a boat out fishing but the weather threatened to be too stormy so they fished from the bank instead.

“They were staying in a cottage in Brora and left the Overscaig carrying the fish and heading for the nearest supermarket to find the necessary ingredients for a trout dinner. They came back to the Overscaig the next day to try again but this kind of luck doesn’t strike twice.”

Mr Fraser added: “We haven’t seen a fish this big for years.”
