Eighteen months ago, the Cattachs arguably caused the biggest upset in Scottish Cup history when they defeated Hearts 2–1 at Dudgeon Park.

The Cattachs have also achieved notable results in other seasons.

They have included a 1–1 draw against Greenock Morton at Cappielow before losing the replay and also won at Stranraer and East Fife.

Tonight, the Cattachs hope to go on another memorable campaign when they take on Lowland League outfit Open Goal Broomhill in the first round at Broadwood.

Ewan (21) says the players are aware of how successful the club have been in the national competition in recent years.

He says that due to their recent success in the competition with their results, Brora Rangers are no longer a team that can fly under the radar.

“I think there probably is a target on our backs since our win over Hearts,” said Ewan.

“After that win over Hearts, everybody takes notice of our name and we have become known as a good football team and can cause upsets.

“We have shown that the gap is not as big between us and the higher leagues as people think it is.

“We have shown that Brora Rangers are a team to watch out for.”
Ewan arrived at Brora Rangers from Nairn County 12 months ago and despite playing in the Scottish Cup previously is looking forward to playing on the road.

“I have only played one away tie in the Scottish Cup and that was with Nairn County when we went to Clachnacuddin in Inverness.

“Every other Scottish Cup game I have played has always been at the home ground. It will be good to play at a big stadium and I am sure there will be a good crowd too.”

Open Goal Broomhill, who were previously known as BSC Glasgow, changed their name to football brand Open Goal with podcast host Simon Ferry becoming the team manager.

Ewan says he is a huge fan of the Open Goal podcast and is looking forward to the tie against a team who contains the likes former Rangers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle player Kirk Broadfoot, who joined the club after leaving the Caledonian Stadium.

“I used to listen to the Open Goal podcast all the time and it was relatable to a lot of people “ he said.

“We know they are in a good position in the Lowland League so we know they will put up a tough game for us on Friday night.”
