BRORA Rangers produced another magnificent performance this season when the defeated Highland League title contenders Deveronvale at Princess Royal Park.

A sensational late goal from Brora substitute Ronnie Jones was the crowning glory of a fabulous display against the highly rated Banff outfit.

Brora shocked Vale by taking the lead in the second minute.

A Gary Kerr corner was booted off the line by Magnus Barclay but John MacKay headed the ball back into the firing line and Alex MacLeod nodded it home from close range. The Sutherland side stunned their hosts again in the 20th minute when Mark Smith picked out Ally MacDonald with a pin-point pass and the talented midfielder guided his shot beyond Vale goalkeeper James Blanchard from just inside the 18-yard box.

But Vale were back in the match four minutes later when Graeme Watt latched on to a Ross McKenzie cross and curled the ball high into the net.

Brora were only inches away from restoring their two-goal cushion shortly afterwards when MacDonald flashed a header just wide of the upright.

The home side rallied after the break and they were back on level terms in the 69th minute when McKenzie blasted a low drive past Brora goalkeeper Daniel Bell.

There were chances at both ends but it was Brora who grabbed the winner in the 77th minute when Jones, who had replaced Scott MacKain on the hour mark, scored with a wonder strike from 25 yards.

Vale huffed and puffed until the end but Bell’s goal was never threatened a Brora held out comfortably for another three points.

The result moved Brora on to 45 points and 10th place in the table.

Brora Rangers: Bell, M MacKenzie, MacKay, A MacLeod, Stephen (Munro 62); Stephen, MacDonald, Grant, Smith, MacKain (Jones 60), J Murray, Kerr. Unused subs: Martin, Duff, Rose.
