Sam Mackay has stood down as manager of Golspie Sutherland.

The former Wick Academy midfielder took charge of Golspie Sutherland in November 2020 from previous manager Andrew Banks and guided them to winning the 2020/21 league title.

However, they were unable to defend the championship this season and have ended the campaign trophyless.

Mackay confirmed his resignation on social media after full time on Tuesday night and thanked Golspie for their support during his time in charge at King George V Park.

He wrote on Tuesday night: “After tonight’s 2-0 defeat to Thurso in our last game, I’ve stepped down as manager at Golspie Sutherland.

“Brilliant couple years dipping my toes into management. Great memories, just wasn’t to be this year. “
