Karters battle it out at Littleferry

IT WAS was a wet start to the day but soon dry, sunny and warm weather greeted drivers for the third round of the ASKC Scottish Super Series and fourth round of the North of Scotland Kart Club Championships at the Littleferry Race Circuit, Golspie, on Sunday .

Practice was followed by five minutes timed qualifying then three heats (ten laps) and a final (fifteen laps).

Honda Cadet:

In the Honda Cadet class Gordon Mutch (Turriff) won heats one and three, Michael MacPherson (Tore) won heat two.

Mutch started the final from pole position and led at the end of lap one from MacPherson, Abbie Munro (Bonar Bridge), Robbie Soutar (Banff), Cameron Evans (Banff) and Hannah Emerson (Muir of Ord). On lap two MacPherson takes the lead from Mutch, then on lap four, Ben Patience (Tore) passes Emerson and Evans for fifth place.

Then on lap seven Patience and Evans pass Soutar for fourth and fifth place. Lap eleven and Evans gets in front of Patience as they pass Munro for third; this battle between Evans and Patience was resolved on the penultimate lap when Patience passed Evans for third place.

All race long the two at the front battled for the lead and fastest race lap which MacPherson took the Chequered flag to win by 0.343 of a second, also fastest lap from Mutch in second place, Patience was third, Evans was fourth, Munro was fifth and Robbie Souter in sixth place along with best novice trophy.

Mini Max:

In the Minimax class Finlay Hutchinson (Dundee) won heat one, Sam MacKenzie (Banchory) won heat two and Cameron MacLaughlan (Glasgow) won heat three.

McLaughlan started the final from pole position and led at the end of lap one from Hutchinson, James Patterson (Granton), Chloe Scott (Aberdeen), MacKenzie and Jack Simpson (Granton on Spey). During the first three laps the first seven drivers were all trying and some succeeding to make passes with Mackenzie first moving up then Patterson. Lap four and Patterson takes the lead with MacKenzie following passing both McLaughlan and Hutchinson. Meanwhile Jack Gordon (Whitecairns) and Jack Tulloch (Granton) were also making their way up the grid and started battling with McLaughlan and Hutchinson for the top six.

Under immense pressure during the last few laps Patterson takes the win by 0.193 of a second from MacKenzie in second place; Hutchinson was in third place and took fastest race lap, Gordon was fourth, McLaughlan was fifth and Tulloch was sixth.

Junior Rotax:

In Junior Rotax Kyle Fowlie (Stuartfield) won all three heats.

For the final Fowlie started from pole position and led at the end of lap one from Tommy Leckie (Glasgow), Jack Williamson (Elgin), Ben Lambie (Banff), Liam Black (Kirkhill) and James Leslie (Banff). During the first few laps Neil Maclennan (Tore) was making his way back through the pack after making a poor start on the opening lap and was up to third place on lap four. At the front Leckie never gave up but had no answer for Fowlie who was in total command throughout the race.

Fowlie taking the win by 1.567 seconds along with fastest race lap, second place was Leckie, MacLennan was third, Lambie fourth, Williamson fifth and Black sixth. Best novice went to Ross Shearer (Banff).

Senior Rotax:

In Senior Rotax Ryan Todd (Turriff) won heat one, Frazer Huntly (Peterhead) won heat two and David McNicol (Glasgow) won heat three. Todd started the final from pole and led at the end of lap one from Andrew Harvie (Newton Mearns), Huntly, Kevin Ross (Inverness), Gregg Simpson (Strichen) and McNicol. Lap five and Harvie passes Todd for the race lead; then on the next lap Ross tries to pass McNicol and spins off to rejoin in last place; lap seven and Huntly takes second from Todd.

Harvie leads the rest of the race and takes the win by 0.762 of a second along with fastest lap from Huntly in second place, Todd was third, McNicol was fourth, Brogan Kinsella (Turriff) was fifth and Blair Campbell (Glasgow) was sixth. Tom Howie (Drumsmittal) won best novice trophy.

ICC Gearbox:

In the gearbox class Ally Smith (Peterhead) won heat one and Graham Clark (Perth) won heats two and three.

Clark started the final from pole and took the lead at the start and led at the end of lap one from Smith, Liam McGill (Dysart), Cliff Harper (Ellon), Michael Christie (Banff) and Rory MacLennan (Tore).

Lap three and Christie passes Harper for fourth place; then on the following lap Smith passes Clark for lead.

McGill and Christie then battle and swap places for third place, until on lap thirteen Christie makes contact with McGill and looses his nosecone.

He receives the black flag and retires with mechanical problems on the penultimate lap.

Smith takes the race win by 3.619 seconds along with fastest race lap from Clark in second place, McGill was in third place, fourth went to MacLennan, Neil Kinghorn (Rothienorman) was fifth and Harper was sixth.

Philip Paterson (Huntly) and Kyle MacKay (Lairg) both retired from the race with mechanical problems.

Final Race Results:

Honda Cadet: 1 Michael MacPherson (Tore), 2 Gordon Mutch (Turriff), 3 Ben Patience (Tore). Jun.Minimax: 1 James Patterson (Granton), 2 Sam MacKenzie (Banchory), 3 Finlay Hutchison (Dundee).

Junior Rotax: 1 Kyle Fowlie (Stuartfield), 2 Tommie Leckie (Glasgow), 3 Neil MacLennan (Tore).

Senior Rotax: 1 Andrew Harvie (Newton Mearns), 2 Frazer Huntly, (Peterhead), 3 Ryan Todd (Turriff).

ICC Gearbox: 1 Ally Smith (Peterhead), 2 Graham Clark (Perth), 3 Liam McGill (Dysart).
