Golspie Kart Club played host to a Drift Scotland event last weekend.

The winner is not the fastest car – instead drivers are awarded points from a judging panel based on the angle of their drift, precision of line, proximity to clipping points and battle partner and the amount of smoke generated from the drift.

It is estimated that around 1000 spectators made their way to the track to watch the action unfold, and times – dubbed “track invasions” – were built in to the weekend to allow people to get up close to the cars first-hand instead of simply watching from afar.

In total there were 45 drivers taking part in the knockout competition last Saturday, travelling from across the UK and even as far as Belgium in one instance.

However, across the more relaxed Sunday events there were 70 drivers on the track, with there being times 10 cars were on track at the same time to form a much train than would normally be seen in competitive drift events.
