The course was laid out in 1924 by five times Open Champion James Braid and it is a testimony to the great man that very little has been done to change his design over all these years.

After much thought, president Alistair Risk and head greenkeeper James MacBeath, took the proposal to extend the par four 11th hole by 50 yards and turn it into a par five, to the AGM. The members voted in favour and over the winter the new tee was built and the fairways extended to facilitate the extra yardage.

Now it is ready to open for competition play.

One side issue to all this is that the course record set by Jim Miller some 40 years ago, at 61 strokes, can now never be beaten. A new record over the longer course will be created during the coming season.

To mark the occasion the club and Clynelish Distillery, the sponsor of the 11th hole, invited Jim Miller to hit the first drive from the new tee.
