The newly appointed captain of Brora Wanderers says his door will always be open as he prepares to lead the village side back into competition for the first time in almost four years.

The amateur football club shared the news last week that long-serving player Scott Miller has been named as club captain ahead of their much anticipated return this summer.

And the 33-year-old striker, who first played for the Sutherland side nineteen years ago, says the role of captain is not one he will take lightly.

He said: "It's an honour to be chosen as captain of Wandies. To some people it's just going to meet the referee at the half way line, but to me it's an honour and something that comes with a lot of responsibility at a club.

"I gathered the lads together after our last friendly and I said to them that I am not just their captain for ninety minutes on a Saturday, but on and off the park too, inside and outside of the club. If anyone wants to speak to me about anything, I will be happy to speak to them confidentially or otherwise."

Miller, who last played competitively in 2019, believes the role can help him raise his own game.

He added: "I cherish the challenge of being able to step up and commit more. I don't think the level matters – amateur or professional – being chosen as a captain of a club shows that people are prepared to place their trust and faith in you.

"I have had a great response from the village and it means the world to me to be captain of Wandies. I will absolutely do my best for the club going forward and hopefully we can bring some silverware home this summer."
