Helmsdale United reclaimed top spot in the North West Sutherland amateur league thanks to a resounding 10–0 win over Melvich on Saturday.

The Couper Park side floored their north Sutherland opponents with five goals in the first half before adding the same again after the interval.

Before the match, the teams observed a minute's silence in memory of Liam Mackay, who tragically passed away on Friday June 24.

Recent signing Mark Mckernie stole the show with a hat-trick from his position at centre half, proving to be a handful for the Melvich defence at corner kicks.

Kevin Cairns, who scored United's opener, also netted three times while Alfie Mackay bagged a brace. The scoring was rounded off by Paul Gordon and Ally Macrae.

After the game, Helmsdale United midfielder Dari Lamborena was presented with a farewell gift, as he leaves Scotland to return to his native Spain.

At Culag Park, Lochinver made easy work of Inver with a 6–3 win.

The west coast side scored five goals during a one sided first half, Jake Lockett, Ally Macleod and Darren Newton complimenting a Daniel Hutchison brace.

Jack Corbett offered the only reply for Inver.

The young visitors emerged for the second half undeterred though, and they did manage to pull two more goals back through Aiden Stainke and player-manager Paul Connolly, who rolled back the years to find the net.

Lochinver made sure of the win when Hutchison grabbed his side's sixth, and his hat-trick.
