Helmsdale darts player Nicky Denoon became the 25th different champion of the Inverness Summer Darts Association since it’s inception 47 years ago in 1974.

In a high quality final Denoon, who plays for Portland A, defeated his teammate James Fraser 3–1 to take the title and add his name to the Bomber Godsman Memorial Trophy.

The unsuccessful semi finalists were Michael Maclean (Seaforth Club) and Bruce MacDonald (Innes Power), while the last eight was made up by Jamie Fraser (East End Arrows), Nigel McEwan (East End Arrows), Gary Gunn (Tarradale) and Mark Fraser (East End Arrows).

En-route to the title Denoon was consistently impressive, notching five maximums, checkouts of 150 and 117 and a 12-dart leg.

Denoon had also competed in the Highland capital the week before, taking part in a Scottish Darts Association Tour event.

He had a track record going in, having won the first tour competition on the calendar in Bannockburn, but he was unable to make it two out of two as he lost 6–0 to Grampian player Scott Robertson, who went on to life the trophy.

Such a quick response in the Inverness Summer Darts competition – an in particular his spectacular return to form – would have been welcomed with open arms then.

That was not Denoon’s only success last week, though, as he also teamed up with Ian MacKinnon from Battlefield Bullies to win the Seaforth Club’s feast of darts doubles competition in Nairn.
