Both teams won their opening North Caledonian League Division One matches against Thurso and St Duthus respectively.

The winner of tomorrow’s clash will move three points clear of the chasing pack.

Golspie won their opening match with a 3-0 victory over Thurso at The Dammies.

While Invergordon almost threw away a three goal lead as they held on to a 3-2 victory against St Duthus.

Banks says he is not reading too much into Invergordon’s defensive lapse knowing that hi team will have to be on top form to win all three points.

“In the last few years, the league title has been between ourselves and Invergordon,” he said.

“There are other teams that are capable of challenging as well on their day.

“But this is one game we do not want to lose that is for sure, or even draw if I’m being honest.

“I’m not reading much into Invergordon’s result as St Duthus are a really good side.

“I was surprised that Invergordon managed to go 3-0 ahead and it sounded like they were heading for a comfortable win. But 3-2 was a result that I thought it would be.

“This weekend I don’t think we can afford to lose points.”

Banks looks set to have a full squad available for tomorrow’s encounter.

Golspie took the lead against Thurso after 20 minutes through Eddie MacGregor before former Wick Academy midfielder Sam Mackay doubled their advantage eight minutes later with a screamer from 25 yards.

Golspie were awarded a penalty eight minutes from the end when Craig Ross kept his composure from 12 yards to secure all three points.

Banks says it was a professional start to the campaign.

“It was routine performance, we were far from our best but we did enough to get the three points,” he said.

“Sam Mackay has goals like that in his locker and Eddie MacGregor did well and I hope he is a big player for us this season.”
