Golspie Sutherland have discovered their opening opponents for the 2023/24 Scottish Cup – and it will be a long journey south for the North Caledonian League outfit.

They have been drawn against Scottish Borders outfit Hawick Royal Albert, who were relegated from the East of Scotland League Second Division last season, in the second preliminary round.

Both teams are full Scottish FA members, but both also suffered exits in last year's solitary preliminary round.

In Golspie's case, a 2-0 defeat to Glasgow University knocked them out, whereas Hawick Royal Albert took Carnoustie Panmure to a replay where they eventually lost out 3-0.

Second preliminary round matches will take place on the weekend of September 2, when Golspie Sutherland will be making a 10-hour round trip covering more than 500 miles.
