GOLSPIE Sutherland manager Sam Mackay says his team are not looking too far ahead in challenging for the North Caledonian League Division One title.

Golspie restart their campaign at Halkirk United tomorrow, just two points behind league leaders Invergordon. The Ross-shire outfit were held to a 1–1 draw at bottom of the table Orkney last weekend leaving Golspie within striking distance, with the two teams set to clash on Saturday, June 5 at Recreation Park.

But Mackay is only concentrating on winning the match in Caithness on Saturday, looking to ensure his team keep the pressure on Invergordon for the rest of the campaign and continue their challenge for the title.

“We are just concentrating on playing one game at a time,” he said.

“All the games that we have are tough games.

“Orkney proved that against Invergordon and we have still to play Orkney twice.

“Halkirk United won’t be an easy game either as they pushed Thurso all the way at the weekend.

“Invergordon in a couple of weeks will be a big one as well. But we have to win on Saturday first and then look forward to Invergordon.”
Golspie aim to take a strong squad to Morrison Park to face the Anglers, where Mackay is aware of most of their players.

Golspie prepared for the match with a friendly
against Bonar Bridge on Wednesday night and played a previous bounce game at Helmsdale.

Their previous competitive match was back in December when they beat Halkirk United 5–1 at King George V Park.

While aiming for another impressive performance, Mackay will be happy with a victory.

“When we played Halkirk we won comfortably but they had players sent off,” he said.

“Had it been 11 v 11 it could have been a different result and we know it will be a tough place to go.”
