Golspie Sutherland may be out of the North Caledonian League’s title race, but they could have had a significant role to play in where the crown ends up this year after beating Halkirk United on Wednesday night.

Golspie, who won the league the last twice it was able to be completed, put down an early marker for their credentials ahead of next season by defeating Halkirk 2–0.

Golspie striker Liam Bremner scored the second against Halkirk on Wednesday night.

Miller Mackay opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, before Liam Bremner decisively doubled their lead in the 73rd minute.

That result leaves Golspie with just one more match to play to bring the curtain down on their campaign, which is due to take place next Wednesday evening away at Thurso.

Bonar Bridge are set to make that exact same trip on Saturday, though, as they bid to avoid finishing bottom of the table.

Bonar currently sit 10th in the league, and with Thurso the only side currently below them three points would prove very valuable.
