MANAGER Mark McKernie hopes history will repeat itself when Golspie Sutherland head down to face Hawick Royal Albert in the Scottish Cup second preliminary second round on Saturday.

Golspie will be looking to complete a hat-trick of wins at Hawick in the Scottish Cup, having won twice at Albert Park in the last 11 years.

The North Caledonian League outfit won 4-2 in the first round in 2012 and won again two years ago with a 2-0 victory in the preliminary round.

Mckernie says he is now preparing his team to win in the Borders again and will head down in confident mood against a team seventh in the East of Scotland Third Division.

“A lot has probably changed in the last two years since Golspie last beat Hawick,” said McKernie.

“I have had a look at their scores and had them watched and they have had an up and down start to the season. This is not a free hit for us, history is on our side and we have a good team of 16 players going down for the game.”

Golspie will be travelling 264 miles down to Hawick on the day of the game, with players based in Caithness facing travelling even further down the road.

However, McKernie is confident distance will not be a factor in how the players perform on Saturday.

“We are facing a five and a half hour journey down the road on the morning of the game,” he said.

“We will leave Golspie at 6.45am on Saturday to make it in time for the game and hopefully there are no roadworks.”

Golspie will be heading to Hawick in confident mood after winning 3-1 at Fort William in the Football Times Cup last Saturday.

However, they will be missing Ally Macleod for Saturday's game due to family commitments.

Former Wick Academy attacker Steven Anderson is also missing for the clash , with Sean Campbell remaining a doubt if he can make the trip south.
