Five-star derby win pushes unbeaten Golspie Stafford into joint-top spot
Golspie Stafford’s impressive start to the season continued with a 5-1 win over east Sutherland rivals Helmsdale United last night.
The derby win draws Golspie level with Tain Thistle and Inver at the top of the North-west Sutherland League table, separated only by goal difference.

The highlight of the evening was a hat-trick for leading marksman Robbie Murray, who has now netted 11 goals for the champions this season, across north-west competitions.
Michael Rodgers and David Murray also hit the target for Golspie, with a goal from Aaron Grant the lone reply from Helmsdale.
In the other game of the evening, Inver beat Embo 7-1 to move into third place.
David Bell gave the home side the lead just two minutes into the game before Inver levelled through Reece Wilson eight minutes later.
Bruce Urquhart completed the turnaround soon after to put the Ross outfit 2-1 up and the game swung fully in their favour when Jayden Loughlin fired a shot into the top right corner after half an hour.
Towards the end of the half, midfield man Alex Mackenzie calmly slotted home to make it 4-1 before Johnie Beattie rounded off the first half scoring with the side’s fifth.
Inver’s Mackenzie scored two more in the second half to compound Embo’s misery, taking his overall tally to three.
