North boxer Andrew Mackay has won his latest fight against lofty Bulgarian opponent Angel Emilov.

The six-round bout took place at the Radison Blu Hotel, Glasgow, on November 5.

Mackay initially looked to be at a substantial disadvantage in reach and weight with the 6ft 5” Bulgarian welterweight topping him by 9”.

And the feisty Highlander did indeed come under serious pressure in the second and third rounds with his opponent looking dangerous.

But when the final bell rang it brought victory for Mackay who came tops on points in every round

It was a sweet win as it followed on from his defeat at the same venue on June 24 to Ryan Collins of Irvine who took the Scottish lightweight title.

That fight was controversially stopped in the fourth round following a clash of heads but Collins got the decision on the scorecards.

A rematch between the two young fighters is on the cards. Meanwhile Mackay is back to his day job on the railway but is continuing his strenuous training regime.
