On Saturday, Alan Stanfield of the Nairn Curling Club, a very well-known face at international and Scottish curling championships in a capacity of chief umpire, skipped the winning rink in a very successful Sutherland Province Bonspiel at the Inverness Ice Rink.

The deciding games for the principal winners involved Stanfield’s rink made up of of Killearnan curler Duncan Clark, Colin Wilson (Dornoch) and Angela De Boer (KInlochbervie), and Belmaduthy’s Brenda Macintyre skipping for Alan Sangster (Locheye), Rachael MacRae (Alness) and Scott Lyon (Loch Fleet).

Stanfield’s win over Helen Lyon’s Loch Fleet in his final game saw him top the points table with Macintyre’s rink runners-up.

Finishing in third place was a rink made up of Fraser Parr and Sue Gardiner, from Dornoch, Brora’s Roy Watson and skip Angus Christie (Caberfeidh).
